Holiday favourites
I really love packing for the summer holidays. It makes me feel excited about the promise of a holiday and I love to plan outfits with my favourite pieces without worrying about if they're weather or work appropriate.
I am actually using time and effort on this: I begin planning 2-3 weeks before travelling, I write lists, I try on my summer clothes from last year, I play with outfits. I found it much interesting to plan holiday outfits than work outfits. Wonder why? 😊
This planning is interesting and existing but not easy. Although I have more like a minimal style – my wardrobe is not minimal. I just have too many things and it is like a capsule wardrobe x 8! I mean it is not varied and colourful but I have (too) many basic pieces.
So when it comes to packing a wardrobe for 5 weeks (I am usually on a round trip every summer: from Norway to a mediterranean country and then to Hungary), I have to be very strict. I used to be an over-packer and ended up taking too much stuff but lately I have used the capsule wardrobe technique. Meaning that I need to think of the activities and occasions I need outfits for (for ex. travelling, shopping, garden party, night out, my birthday party, church with the family, beach, walk in the sunset 😊 etc.).
Then I plan the outfits for these occasions. I choose my favourite pieces but I try to build a wardrobe where (almost) any top goes with any bottom. I usually choose the bottoms first, mine are usually black, navy and denim colour, and pair them with different tops, which are mostly white, blue-white striped or blue.
I admit that it happened that I took my favourite top/bottom and I didn’t have anything to go with it!
I add one or two dresses – which I never end up wearing, long shirt or vest for colder evenings, cover-ups for the beach, and done!
I am not strict with the shoes – I pack all my sandals and heels. Then I usually wear some sliders and other walkable shoes all the time. 😊
This summer my favourites are these light, cotton off-the-shoulder tops. All white and blue.
On holiday, I wear my trustiest and best-loved pieces. Nothing fancy. I want to feel at my happiest and most comfortable.
I always have my white hat and my sunnies with me!
